Fast punk, "whether you like it or not" attitude and one particular stupidly catchy song "when the walls come down, they're pilin' in..." - Revolution Sounds Oct 09

Now we were all set, with a permanent name and a couple of gigs in the bag and at present we have performed over 90 live shows in the past 5 years playing memorable gigs such as the 333 club in London and a trikers festival on the outskirts of Nottingham as well as recording 2 EP’s, a live gig and an album with some of our tracks also appearing on independent compilation releases.
Media Exposure
In October 2005, Sheriff FatMan appeared on Paul B. Edwards’ “Punky” radio show on Mansfield FM. The band had turned up to get “Looza” played from our first EP “Members and Non-Members only!” but was also asked to be interviewed live on the show too.
Around the same time “Looza” was also played on “RAW”, Warwick University Radio station.
The same track was also used for a compilation CD in February 2006 entitled “Skank you for the music” which was released by “Fly on the Wall” promotions.
Sheriff Fatman were crowned winners of “Gigged’s” demo of the month competition in November 2005, with their first EP “Members and Non-Members Only!!!” and were interviewed for their web site.
The band were interviewed again this time following a live performance for “Left Lion Presents” which is Nottingham’s best cultural web site and magazine in April 2006, which is published on leftlion.co.uk.
In February 2007 “Saggy Pants” used “Piling In” from our second EP “Punk Rock Clichés Vol79: Oi” as the opening track of their second ever podcast download.
Both EP’s have sold very well at all our live shows, adding to that; our first EP has sold out.
Reviews and Comments
The first band of the night was Nottingham based three-piece Sheriff Fatman. Their sound is sharp and urgent Punk-Rock – it’s the kind of raw exciting noise you can only get from three people going full out and it really works for the band. Tracks full of energy and catchy riffs, they clearly know how to write a track for maximum impact, stripping away any pretension or self-indulgence for simple yet clever jump-along songs. At The Flapper they delivered an excellent set performed with charisma and confidence – a very impressive effort for the other bands to attempt to follow. - Surface Unsigned 09 Gig Review
A mix of catchy, powerful punk with a more traditional British rock n roll edge, that will have you singing along by the second chorus. The drums really gallop along and provide a stable kick to a lot of the sound, with a really consistent boom to them, that thrown in with punchy guitar and bass that drives the punk rock.
In short, decent, old fashioned, beer fuelled fun, which makes you jump around and dance with a smile on your face. – Saggy Pants Gig Review
Punk group of fast drums, guitar and vocals. Bit like Clash meets my shed that burnt down. The Finger is a class tune with a gross Bass line start, joined up by ska style punky guitar and drums. Put it on, volume up, dance about and spit. You will feel the punknik (the graffiti spray across the music scene). – Left Lion “Members and Non-Members Only!!!” EP Review
Rob Tannahill
Guitarist & Vocals
A bald man who sings like a girl, says random things that no one understands and experiences a general frustration in not being able to show off his twiddly bits.
I am a master of widdly wees and twiddly bits. (Ive got a certificate and everything!)
Dom De Vivo
Drums & Vocals
A mad ass drummer, who plays too fast for everyone else, and provides much vocal output to anyone who's listening.
Punk is in my blood, music should be made to jump around to.
Mark Smith
Bass & Vocals
Multi face bass player, 5ft 10, hung like big ben.
Fuck fame, we do this thing for fun.
Sheriff FatMan History
Rob and Dom have known each other since they we were was at least 5 years old, at nursery. “We probably knew each other before then but we can’t remember that far back!”
The two of them originally had a group, which started when they were in sixth form back in the early 90s, when everything was black and white! But the band went through various line up and name changes and finally settled as 3-piece under the name “Morf”, and played a handful of gigs. That ended late in 95 due to uni commitments and a few other things, but Rob and Dom always intended to start a band again, once Dom was back living in Nottingham..

It took a while, but they both stuck to their word and in 2003 the band reformed. At this point the new band needed a bass player and it was during this time that Dom got to know Mark who was a friend of a friend and found out he was a guitarist and into punk music, and so in the summer of 2003 we convinced Mark to play bass so that we could bring him into the band, and the trio has been together ever since.

After a few months of practising and writing songs in June 2004 we had our first live performance which took place in an empty house which Dom had just finished renting. All furniture was removed and we set up and played in the front room to invited friends. We performed under the name “Plumbing by Dave” but it only lasted for the one gig then we came to our senses. The first real live performance came in Sept 2004 at the very famous Nottingham Boat Club, the very stage the Sex Pistols played on in the late 70’s. This time we performed under the name of “The Stand Ins”, which didn’t suit us, so we decided to drop it, but then one magical day at practice, we hit on the idea of “Sheriff FatMan” whilst we were writing “Alleyway”, because the intro riff to that song is slightly reminiscent of 'Sheriff Fatman' the song by Carter USM, and it was a lot, better than all of the names we came up with in-between. But really it was more of a case of “look guys we need a name” and that was the flavour of the week at the time.
